TENERIFE, CANARY ISLANDS - 29TH NOVEMBER 10:00PM
tenerife-teide.jpg

Embark Voyager in Tenerife. The largest of the seven Canary Islands is dominated by Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak.

GRAN CANARIA, CANARY ISLANDS - 30TH NOVEMBER 7:00AM - 7:00PM
gran-canaria-santa-ana-cathedral.jpg

Step ashore to discover Gran Canaria’s vibrant capital, Las Palmas, which is home to historic buildings and monuments chronicling its 500-year history. UNESCO-listed Vegueta is its historic heart, where you can discover the twin-towered Santa Ana Cathedral. Taking almost four centuries to build, the intervention of many architects was inevitable, resulting in a pleasing mixture of Renaissance, Gothic and neoclassical architectural styles. Las Palmas is also nestled between two charming bays and boasts beautiful beaches.

AT SEA 1ST DECEMBER - 2ND DECEMBER
MINDELO, CAPE VERDE - 3RD DECEMBER 8:00AM - 5:00PM
mindelo-cape-verde.jpg (2)

Voyager arrives at Cape Verde – a 10-island archipelago way out in the Atlantic to the west of Africa. Step ashore in Mindelo on São Vicente, which boasts a carnival atmosphere and an enticing blend of Portuguese traditions and Brazilian style. Colonial architecture and historic monuments, beautiful beaches and sweeping sand dunes are yours to discover as well as far-reaching sea views.

AT SEA 4TH DECEMBER - 7TH DECEMBER
GEORGETOWN, ASCENSION ISLAND - 8TH DECEMBER 8:00AM - 6:00PM
georgetown-ascension.jpg

Ascension is a speck of an island covering an area of just 34 square miles – its lower slopes and western side made up of volcanic ash, and the lush Green Mountain at its heart. Serving mainly as a military base, laid-back Georgetown has a population of just 450.

AT SEA 9TH DECEMBER - 10TH DECEMBER
JAMESTOWN, ST HELENA ISLAND - 11TH DECEMBER 7:30AM - 2:30PM
jamestown-st-helena.jpg (1)

The remote island of St Helena was discovered by the Portuguese in 1502 and became a vitally important port to the East India Company’s trade routes. It was also home to Napoleon Bonaparte, exiled here until his death in 1821. Scenically spectacular, step ashore to marvel at verdant hillsides, steep, vegetation-filled valleys and high cliffs of volcanic rock rising dramatically from the sea.

AT SEA 12TH DECEMBER - 14TH DECEMBER
WALVIS BAY, NAMIBIA - 15TH DECEMBER 8:00AM (OVERNIGHT) - 16TH DECEMBER 1:00PM
walvis-bay-namibia.jpg (1)

Nature-lovers and seekers of peace and quiet will find a haven in Walvis Bay. Situated at a wide lagoon and surrounded by salt flats, it is home to a huge variety of sea birds, pelicans and flamingos.

LUDERITZ, NAMIBIA - 17TH DECEMBER 8:30AM - 6:00PM
luderitz-namibia.jpg (1)

Luderitz is nestled between the dusty Namib Desert and the South Atlantic Coast. Purchased by German merchant Adolf Luderitz in 1883, it began life as a trading post and an alternative destination for German settlers who, at the time, were heading to North America in droves. The town enjoyed its heyday when diamonds were discovered in nearby Kolmanskop, which became a ghost town when more accessible gems were found elsewhere. Today, Kolmanskop lies abandoned and is slowly being reclaimed by the shifting desert sands.

AT SEA 18TH DECEMBER
CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA - 19TH DECEMBER 8:30AM (OVERNIGHT) - 20TH DECEMBER
cape-town-downtown.jpg

As dramatic locations go, few places in the world top Cape Town, with the magnificent flat-topped Table Mountain providing a stunning backdrop. From pristine coastlines and countryside bursting with exotic flora to cosmopolitan shopping malls and an eclectic mix of architectural styles, there is much to discover as you overnight in port. You could take a cable car up the mountain or visit Robben Island, a place of banishment and imprisonment, where Nelson Mandela was held, during the years of apartheid.

Voyages of Discovery provide all of our passengers with detailed descriptions of all their excursions ahead of their cruise. They will all be available to Pre Book and a Cruise Booklet will be sent to you 3 months ahead of your sailing date
SOUTH AFRICA’S GARDEN ROUTE 3 NIGHT POST-CRUISE EXTENSION

20-23 DECEMBER 2017

Follow one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world – South Africa’s magnificent Garden Route – and discover a series of charming towns set amidst areas of outstanding natural beauty. Enjoy an orientation tour of Port Elizabeth, known as the ‘friendliest city’ on the sunshine coast, before driving past the Tsitsikamma Mountains and across the Groot River and Bloukrans Passes. Knysna lies on a lagoon, the mouth of which is guarded by two promontories known as the Knysna Heads. After a ferry trip across the lagoon, step aboard a 4x4 Unimog vehicle, complete with trailer, and journey to a fantastic viewpoint, from where you can take in spectacular views. You could join an optional walk along the scenic coastal path, passing Milkwood forests, sandstone cliffs and ancient Khoisan sea caves. A delicious buffet lunch at the reserve’s restaurant completes this authentic eco-experience. The Monkeyland Sanctuary has captured the hearts of visitors in its efforts to rehabilitate previously caged primates. Safaris enable guests to leave with a greater understanding of the primates of the world and the threats they are facing. The stunning Wilderness Lakes Area is simply breathtaking. You’ll cross the scenic Outeniqua Pass, named after the Hottentot Tribe who formerly lived there, to reach Oudtshoorn – the ‘ostrich capital of the world’. At Safari Ostrich Farm, enjoy a delicious lunch including a variety of different ostrich dishes and experience a tour of the farm, which traces the development of these unique birds. You’ll also have the opportunity to sit on an ostrich and watch a race featuring the world’s biggest bird. Set against the backdrop of the majestic Langeberg mountain range, the Garden Route Game Lodge private game reserve promises a truly memorable safari experience. Late-afternoon and early-morning game drives offer plenty of opportunities to spot the ‘Big Five’. Lying at the banks of the Duiwenhoks River, with the soaring Langeberg peaks Heidelberg is a nature lover’s paradise and offers a peaceful and scenic atmosphere. It is the perfect place to stop for lunch on the final leg of your Garden Route, which ends in cosmopolitan Cape Town.

SOSSUSVLEI SCENIC FLIGHT PREMIUM TOUR FROM WALVIS BAY

16 DECEMBER 2017

Transfer to Swakopmund Airport, where you’ll board a light aircraft and enjoy a 2-hour scenic flight over the Namib Desert. This popular excursion is guaranteed to be a highlight of your holiday as you journey from Walvis Bay on a 5-seater aircraft over the incredible desert landscape to the Kuiseb River. You’ll experience low-level flying along the river to the Gobabeb Training and Research Centre, which conducts research into climate, ecology and geomorphology, and pass Tsondabvlei, the only known breeding area for the lappet-faced vulture in southern Namibia. This journey will take you to Sossusvlei, a visually stunning stretch of desert which is home to the highest shifting sand dunes in the world. You’ll see how the sand changes colour from pale apricot to brick orange and deep red – a vivid contrast with the surrounding vast white clay pans. From Sossusvlei, you’ll fly over the Diamond Restricted Area, where the remains of three former diamond camps are a fascinating sight. You’ll fly along the coastline at Conception Bay, where sights you may see include colonies of cape fur seals, the shipwreck of the passenger liner ‘Eduard Bohlen’, stranded in 1909 and another wreck, the ‘Shaunee’, which ran aground in 1976. Before arrival back at Swakopmund Airport, you’ll reach Sandwich Harbour, an internationally important wetland where the highest density of lesser and greater flamingos was recorded, and view Namibia’s coastal salt mines, which also attract many thousands of birds.
