Sprawled along the Mediterranean coastline, Marseille is the oldest city in France. Its historic Old Port is the cosmopolitan heart of this lively city, or maybe you’ll explore Le Panier, an ancient district with twisting lanes and welcoming shops and cafés. Alternatively, you could head inland and visit beautiful Avignon, a grand city on the Rhône River. The UNESCO-listed Palais des Papes is the largest Gothic palace in the world and takes centre stage in this city of architectural treasures.

Lying between the Etang de Thau - a large saltwater lagoon - and the Mediterranean, Sete is a cosmopolitan town laced by canals. Stroll past colourful houses overlooking the harbour where fishing boats vie for space with sleek yachts, head to the top of Mont St Clair for panoramic views, or discover the medieval walled city of Carcassonne, whose turreted fortress is set high on a hill.

Barcelona - capital of Catalonia - is Voyager’s next port of call. Sitting resplendent between the sea and the mountains, the city is famous for the work of architect Antoni Gaudi. Step ashore to admire the stunning spires of his magnificent Sagrada Família or maybe take a stroll through the enchanting Park Güell. Discover stunning medieval and Roman architecture in the Gothic Quarter and don’t miss the chance to take a walk down Las Ramblas, the lively, tree-lined promenade running through the heart of the city.

The attractive city of Palma de Mallorca is a stylish blend of magnificent architectural landmarks and traditional lanes packed full of little shops, unique buildings and tempting cafés. In the Middle Ages Valencia was Spain’s most vibrant port, trading silk, wine, almonds and oranges. Today the city blends traditional Spanish spirit with a cosmopolitan Mediterranean flavour. Perhaps you’ll choose to discover the atmospheric old town with its impressive cathedral, narrow streets and pretty plazas, before heading to the futuristic Ciudad de las Artes y las Cirencias.

Voyager’s next port of call is Motril, nestled at the foothills of the Sierra Lujar Mountains. This charming Andalusian seaside town is your gateway to Granada and the lavish Alhambra Palace. Sitting on a hilltop, this sensational piece of Islamic art is a magnificent complex of pink stone courtyards, pools, fountains, grand halls and cool patios, set alongside the beautiful Generalife gardens.

GIBRALTAR, - 18TH OCTOBER 7:00AM - 1:00PM

The Rock of Gibraltar stands guard at the Atlantic entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. Soaring up to 426 metres, you can take a cable car right to the top for sensational views north towards the Sierra Nevada and south all the way to North Africa. At the summit you’ll also encounter the famous Barbary macaques, they are Europe’s only wild primate and will entertain you with their mischievous behaviour.

AT SEA 19TH OCTOBER

Your cruise ends with an overnight stay in port on the Volcanic Island of Tenerife. Discover La Orotava, a pretty colonial town set in a fertile valley or marvel at the volcanic wilderness of Teide National Park. Spectacular rock formations, lava streams and ash beds create a dramatic lunar landscape, and for an aerial view, why not ride the cable car to the top of Mount Teide, the third-tallest volcano in the world.

JOHN SHERLOCK (NADFAS)

John Sherlock advises the owners of Britain’s finest houses and landscapes on how to make these places more visitor-friendly. This includes explaining the fascinating story of European architecture – from classical origins to the present day. He has completed in-depth projects for The National Trust, The Crown Estate and member houses of The Historic Houses Association. While managing “The Royal Landscape” project, John was selected to make a presentation of Windsor Great Park’s renewal programme to HM the Queen and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh at Windsor Castle. An unbridled enthusiast for his subject, John was educated at Winchester (where he first caught the architecture bug from the legendary cruise lecturer Colin Badcock) and Oxford, where he read Engineering Science and developed an understanding of building structures.

BRIGADIER PHILIP SANDERS CBE

After training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Philip served 30 years in the British Army retiring in the rank of brigadier. He had commanded the 4th Royal Tank Regiment, the British Army of the Rhine’s reconnaissance forces, the tri-national Berlin Relief Force and was a Director of Operations at Joint Force Headquarters during the 1st Gulf War. He attended and instructed at the Army Staff College also attended the Royal College of Defence Studies. He was awarded the CBE in 1986. As a life-long student of military history, he specialises in 20th Century campaigns and focuses on the operational and logistic management of war.
