AT SEA 15TH - 16TH JUNE
LERWICK, SHETLAND ISLES - 17TH JUNE 8:00AM - 6:00PM
lerwick.jpg

The remote Shetland Isles are Britain’s most northerly outpost, boasting rugged landscapes, stunning wildlife and a remarkable history which spans some 6000 years. Take a trip to the incredible archaeological site of Jarlshof to discover a complex of ancient settlements dating back to the late Bronze Age or explore Lerwick, with its 18th century artillery fort and busy harbour. At nearby Clickimin, you’ll see a fabulous example of an Iron Age broch - a hollow-walled structure found only in Scotland.

KIRKWALL, ORKNEY ISLES - 18TH JUNE 7:00AM - 6:00PM
stenness-kirkwall.jpg

Isles boast glorious white-sand beaches and a fascinating heritage. Founded in the early 11th century, Kirkwall is an excellent example of an ancient Norse town and with its wide, picturesque bay, meandering lanes and gently rolling hills, you’ll enjoy impressive views at every turn. Step further back in time and discover the Heart of Neolithic Orkney, a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose unforgettable highlights include the Standing Stones of Stenness and Skara Brae.

STORNOWAY, ISLE OF LEWIS - 19TH JUNE 8:00AM - 10:00PM
stornoway.jpg

Lewis is the largest and most northerly of the Hebrides, with a wild, unspoilt landscape steeped in thousands of years of history. Founded by the Vikings in the 9th century, Stornoway is the only town on the island. From here you can discover the Neolithic Callanish Stones, one of the most complete ancient stone circles in Europe, or discover the well-preserved broch at Dun Carloway, where you can also find out more about these drystone structures.

PORTREE, ISLE OF SKYE - 20TH JUNE 7:00AM - 7:00PM
portree.jpg

The Isle of Skye is the largest of the Inner Hebrides. Step ashore in the lively harbour town of Portree and admire the picture-perfect harbour, lined with pretty pastel-coloured houses. Take in the island’s stunning scenery of glistening lochs and dramatic coastline, or head to the breathtakingly beautiful Eilean Donan Castle, which sits on its own island surrounded by towering forest-clad mountains.

TOBERMORY, ISLE OF MULL - 21ST JUNE 7:00AM - 6:00PM
tobermory.jpg

The Isle of Mull is an island of sweeping moors punctuated by picturesque clearings and its charming capital, Tobermory, is a haven for wildlife. Discover this Georgian-fronted fishing port and look out for rare species of bird and marine animals. Perhaps enjoy a boat trip for a better chance of spotting the whales and dolphins that live in the surrounding waters.

AT SEA 22ND JUNE
ST MARY’S, ISLES OF SCILLY - 23RD JUNE 8:00AM - 6:00PM
st-marys-isles-of-scilly.jpg

The Isles of Scilly are known for their magnificent scenery and laid-back atmosphere. Sitting as they do, in the path of the Gulf Stream, the islands enjoy a mild climate and are home to a diverse mix of flora and fauna. Head to Tresco, the second largest of the Scilly islands, to discover the sub-tropical Abbey Garden with its array of exotic plants.

GUERNSEY, CHANNEL ISLANDS - 24TH JUNE 8:00AM - 6:00PM

Just off the coast of France lie the Channel Islands, where stunning scenery, charming harbours and incredible wildlife await. Step ashore on Guernsey and discover its atmospheric capital, St Peter Port, where you can explore Castle Cornet, an 800-yearold fortress with an intriguing history. JOHN SHERLOCK (NADFAS)
John-Sherlock.jpg

John Sherlock advises the owners of Britain’s finest houses and landscapes on how to make these places more visitor-friendly. This includes explaining the fascinating story of European architecture – from classical origins to the present day. He has completed in-depth projects for The National Trust, The Crown Estate and member houses of The Historic Houses Association. While managing “The Royal Landscape” project, John was selected to make a presentation of Windsor Great Park’s renewal programme to HM the Queen and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh at Windsor Castle. An unbridled enthusiast for his subject, John was educated at Winchester (where he first caught the architecture bug from the legendary cruise lecturer Colin Badcock) and Oxford, where he read Engineering Science and developed an understanding of building structures.
