GRAN CANARIA, CANARY ISLANDS - 22ND OCTOBER 7:00AM - 6:00PM
gran-canaria-las-palmas.jpg

The stunning landscape of Gran Canaria features mountains, lush forest, Sahara-like dunes and sandy beaches. The lively capital Las Palmas boasts a fascinating cultural heritage, and the beautiful House of Colombus is one of the many highlights. Christopher Columbus reputedly stayed here in 1492 while repairs were made to one of his ships and it’s a splendid example of Canarian architecture. Inside you’ll find a fascinating museum which documents the voyages of the famous explorer and the history of Gran Canaria.

FUERTEVENTURA, CANARY ISLANDS - 23RD OCTOBER 7:00AM - 2:00PM
fuerteventura.jpg

Voyager’s next port of call is Fuerteventura, the second-largest of the Canary Islands. With yearround sunshine, breathtaking volcanic landscapes and more than 150 kilometres of spectacular whitesand beach, this popular holiday spot has been designated a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. One of the most significant colonial landmarks in all the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura’s ancient capital Betancuria is tucked inside the surrounding mountains. When it was founded in 1404, this inland village acted as a defence against pirate attacks. Nowadays, you can visit the town’s beautiful white-walled cathedral and a clutch of small museums.

FUNCHAL, MADEIRA - 24TH OCTOBER 1:00PM (OVERNIGHT) - 25TH OCTOBER 6:00PM
funchal-madeira.jpg

Voyager’s next stop is Madeira, the ‘floating garden of the Atlantic.’ Discovered by two Portuguese explorers in 1419, the island prospered after the introduction of crops such as cane sugar, and the capital, Funchal, became an important trading port. It occupies a sheltered position in a natural amphitheatre backed by mountains and, thanks to the mild climate, beautiful flowers bloom here all year round. An overnight stay in port gives ample time to enjoy Funchal’s many sights.

AT SEA 26TH OCTOBER
PONTA DELGADA, AZORES - 27TH OCTOBER 7:00AM (OVERNIGHT) - 28TH OCTOBER 6:00PM
sete-cidades-ponta-delgada.jpg

The Azores - a group of nine volcanic islands - rise from the deep-blue Atlantic Ocean between Portugal and North America. Voyager’s discovery of this archipelago begins with an overnight stay inPonta Delgada, on the largest island São Miguel. Known as ‘The Green island’ the landscape here is made up of towering mountains, rolling hills, sparkling lakes and glorious beaches. From Ponta Delgada be sure to visit the spectacular Sete Cidades, twin lakes found in an extinct volcano crater. One is blue, the other green and according to local legend, they were formed from the tears of a princess and a shepherd who were forbidden from marrying. Other highlights include the steaming hot springs in Furnas and the vast, yet tranquil, crater lake Lagoa do Fogo.

PRAIA DA VITORIA, AZORES - 29TH OCTOBER 7:00AM - 6:00PM
vitoria.jpg

Praia da Vitoria is a pretty town located in a large bay on the island of Terceira. It was founded in 1456 as Vila da Praia and once served as the island’s capital. Today you’ll discover a long, sandy beach, chic marina and some notable historic buildings here, whilst in the island’s current capital, UNESCO-listed Angra do Heroismo you’ll find one of Portugal’s best public libraries.

HORTA, AZORES - 30TH OCTOBER 7:00AM - 6:00PM
horta-caldeira.jpg

Known as the ‘Blue Island’ because of the hydrangeas that bloom here during the summer months, Faial, is a spectacular destination. In technical terms it is the westernmost point of Europe because the islands further west actually sit on the American tectonic plate. The capital, Horta, is situated in a sheltered position, making it an important port of call for yachts as they journey across the Atlantic. Stroll around the marina and you’ll see colourful vessels of different nationalities bobbing about peacefully in the water, or perhaps head to the heart of the island and discover Caldeira, a 400-metre-deep volcanic cone which showcases the flora and fauna of the island.

AT SEA 31ST OCTOBER - 1ST NOVEMBER
LA PALMA, CANARY ISLANDS - 2ND NOVEMBER 12:00PM - 6:00PM
palma-majorca.jpg

Famous for the vegetation which blankets the island in different hues of green, La Palma was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2002. Its dramatic landscape is one of spectacular volcanoes, lush forests and tumbling waterfalls. In the elegant capital, Santa Cruz de la Palma, you’ll discover cobbled streets, fine churches and seafront houses.

TENERIFE, CANARY ISLANDS - 3RD NOVEMBER 8:00AM (OVERNIGHT) - 4TH NOVEMBER
tenerife-teide.jpg

As your cruise comes to an end, Voyager will return to Tenerife for an overnight in stay in port. In the centre of the island, amidst a lunar-like landscape of ash beds and lava streams, you can discover Mount Teide - the highest peak in Spain, which resides in Teide National Park. Another interesting landscape is yours to uncover in the Orotava Valley, where banana plantations thrive on the fertile slopes and the pretty, colonial town is an interesting place to explore.

Voyages of Discovery provide all of our passengers with detailed descriptions of all their excursions ahead of their cruise. They will all be available to Pre Book and a Cruise Booklet will be sent to you 3 months ahead of your sailing date
